The Duke and Duchess of Sussex “definitely” intend to use Frogmore Cottage on future visits to the UK, sources close to the couple said today.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reimbursed £2.4 million of public money used to renovate the property near Windsor Castle after signing a major deal to produce documentaries for Netflix.
Frogmore had been intended as a marital home before they stepped back from their royal roles and moved to California with baby Archie earlier this year.
The couple — who had been paying back the money in monthly instalments — announced that they had now totally refunded the Sovereign Grant and will pay market rent for the five-bedroom house, to use as a base once travel restrictions from the US have been lifted. The move was described as a “significant moment” in the couple’s ambition to achieve financial independence.
Confirming that the couple will “definitely” use Frogmore, a source told the Standard: “It was important to them to be able to do this — no one in the family or the institution asked them to do it, this was something they felt was important for themselves.”
Harry and Meghan recently bought an £11 million nine-bedroom home, with 16-bathrooms, in Montecito, Santa Barbara as they build new lives and careers together in the US.
