The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been criticised on social media for using a monogram with a crown above their initials on an official letter, despite having quit the royal family in March.
On Sunday, the charity Street Games tweeted a picture of a heartfelt letter it had been sent by the couple, praising the work it does to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds get involved in sport.
The letter reads: “The impact of Covid-19 has been a scary and testing time for so many people from all walks of life, all over the world.
“However, it is in these difficult times like these that goodwill to others and community spirit prevails.”
The couple added: “We have been touched to witness from afar the coming together of the organisations we champion and so deeply care about.”
Street Games shared its excitement over the letter on Twitter, writing: “Wow! Thank you so much Harry and Meghan for your kind words and your continued support for StreetGames and the brilliant local organisations working to support their communities in these challenging times.”
The tweet was liked more than 1,400 times and received hundreds of comments.
However, many of the comments focused on the fact that the letter was topped with a logo that featured Harry and Meghan’s initials underneath a crown.
People were quick to criticise the couple’s use of the logo given that they are no longer working members of the royal family.
“They need to take that crown out of that M logo,” tweeted one person.
“Still using the logo!! What don’t you understand about your walk away from royal life?” added another.
However, not everyone was quite so critical, with many Twitter users praising the couple for their continued philanthropic work.
“So kind of them,” tweeted one person.
“Thank you all for the great work you are doing,” added another.
Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior members of the royal family in March, after announcing their intentions to do so in January.
The couple are currently living in Los Angeles, California and recently announced plans to launch a philanthropic organisation under the name Archewell, but details surrounding the organisation have yet to be announced.
