Harry and Meghan baby announcement: Duke and Duchess of Sussex 'overjoyed' at pregnancy

Prince Harry and wife Meghan are expecting their second child, it has been announced.

On Sunday, a spokesperson for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

The couple welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019.

He is seventh in line to the throne of Britain, and does not have a formal title.

It's not yet known when his new sibling is due to arrive.

A black and white photo of the couple has been shared alongside the announcement, showing Meghan lying on the floor cradling a baby bump, with her head resting against her husband's leg.

Following the announcement the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their second child, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire family are delighted and wish them well.”

Misan Harriman, a friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the photographer who took the photo that accompanied their pregnancy announcement, tweeted: “Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow.

"Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”

The couple announced in January 2020 that they would be stepping away from the Royal Family and become financially independent "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".

The couple moved to North America last year.

Former Suits actress Meghan opened up last year about the "almost unbearable grief" of losing a baby to a miscarriage, earning praise from many for helping to break the "taboo" around loss of a pregnancy.
