The moment a little girl was hit by a car... before the driver 'stuck her middle finger up at her mum and drove off'

Shocking video shows a six-year-old being hit by a car - before the motorist appears to drive away.

It is claimed the woman opened her window and told the child's mother to 'f*** off', before sticking her middle finger up.

The distressing CCTV footage, which has been edited by the Manchester Evening News so as not to show the moment of impact, shows Sumaiya Ahmed crossing the road while making her way home from school in Oldham.

A car is seen being driven along the road, before it swerves slightly and hits the youngster.

The dark grey vehicle - which Sumaiya's mum thinks was a Toyota - is then seen reversing, mounting the pavement, turning right and driving away from Eustace Street as passers-by rush to help the child.

Sumaiya was with her mum Jukia and siblings when she was hit at around 3pm on Tuesday (January 7).

She suffered a fractured skull, having hit her forehead, her auntie said. Fortunately, no lasting damage is believed to have been done.

At the time of publication, a Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman was unable to confirm whether the driver later stopped - or whether the incident was being treated as a hit-and-run.

The force later confirmed in a statement the car 'failed to stop'. GMP said the girl suffered a 'minor head injury'.

Jukia, from Chadderton, said she put up her hand as she crossed the road and expected the car to slow down.

Sumaiya's auntie Sultana Khatun told the M.E.N: "She didn't make it in time to slow down and she hit the child.

"A six-year-old child was taken to hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
