Harrowing promise Coronation Street's Robert uttered to baby son before death

Robert Preston's death was made all the more tragic this evening as he was unable to fulfil his final promise to his newborn baby boy on Coronation Street .

The former Bistro owner was shot while he was on his way to the Rovers to help wrap his son's present.

Michelle, played by Kym Marsh, has agreed to take him to see Vicky and their son for the first time before she moved to Ireland. He then planned to move to Ireland to be there for his son.

But Robert ended up tragically collapsing in the street and was rushed to hospital.

Lying in a hospital bed with Michelle at his side, he begged her to call Vicky and tell her what had happened and that he still wanted to see his son.

"I need her to know I'm sorry," Robert croaked out.

However when Michelle rang, she discovered that the number was no longer in use.

She faked a voicemail to Robert's baby mum, detailing what had happened to the dead line.

After Michelle hung up, Robert told her that he never deserved her.

"I'll be there for my son, for my little boy," Robert he promised, before going into cardiac arrest and dying.

Devastating.
