Harrogate Town jump the gun, announcing Jack Diamond loan move ahead of time

Harrogate Town's official website appears to have announced Jack Diamond's return on loan ahead of time.

Sunderland academy product Diamond has been heavily linked with a loan move to Wetherby Road in recent days, having impressed during a loan spell there the season before last when he helped Harrogate win promotion to League Two via the play-offs - including scoring in the final at Wembley.

And news aggregator NewsNow shows a link to a story timed at 17:37pm on Harrogate's official website titled 'He's back! Jack Diamond Returns to Town'.

The story has since been taken down, and the link now clicks through to an error page.

Normally, the timing of transfer announcements are co-ordinated between the two clubs involved but it seems that Harrogate have released the news early.

Sunderland fans are now waiting for the news to be officially confirmed by the Black Cats, and for the story to go live on the Harrogate site.

Diamond, 21, impressed on Wearside last season but so far this term has made just one league appearance as a substitute.

Head coach Lee Johnson said last week that he had discussed with Diamond the possibility of allowing him to leave on loan, and said that there had been 'quite a few offers' for him.

"It's something we've discussed with Jack," he said.

"We've talked about a loan.

"I do believe that to develop a player, you need 25 starts throughout the season, whether that's U23s, first team or a loan.

"That will be no different with 90 percent of our players, and particularly our young players.

"We've had quite a few offers for Jack on loan, and people showing interest.

"We're also potentially in the market for that type of position as well."
