Harrogate's Jon Stead shows class with message to Notts County after their Wembley agony

Harrogate Town striker Jon Stead has sent a classy message to his old club Notts County sand says they will bounce back after their Wembley heartache on Sunday.

Stead came off the bench to face his former employers in the National League play-off final as Simon Weaver's side secured a 3-1 win as the soared into the National League for the first time in their history.

That denied Neal Ardley's a chance of an immediate return to the EFL just 12 months after Notts feared going out of business.

But in a Tweet to the club, the striker is confident the Magpies will come back strongly.

He wrote:  @official_NCFC It was difficult to see players and staff faces at final whistle, touch of class clapping us to our celebrations.

"You are certainly going to bounce back! So many very good people who are still at the club will make sure of it!"

Stead spent four years at Notts where he is fondly remembered having played an integral role in the club's rise to the League Two play-offs in the 2017-18 season before they were beaten by Coventry in the semi-finals.

He also scored a memorable winner in a 1-0 win at Championship side Brentford in the FA Cup in the same season.
