Harrison Ford is being investigated following an incident at a California airport last week.
The Indiana Jones actor, 77, was piloting a single-engine aircraft on 24 April when he crossed the runway at Hawthorne Municipal Airport as another plane was attempting to land, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.
While no damage was caused to either aircraft, the two planes are said to have come within “approximately 3,600 feet” of each other, with aviation officials confirming on Wednesday (29 April) that they had opened an investigation into the incident.
Ford had been told to “hold short”, but “misheard” and immediately apologised for his mistake, saying: “Excuse me, sir, I thought exactly the opposite. I’m terribly sorry.”
A representative for the Star Wars actor said: “The purpose of the flight was to maintain currency and proficiency in the aircraft. No one was injured and there was never any danger of a collision.”
It’s not the first time Ford has been investigated for his flying.
In 2017, he avoided disciplinary action after accidentally passing his plane over an American Airlines jet.
The actor also crashed his vintage Second World War plane onto a Santa Monica golf course due to engine failure in 2015, while NBC reports that Ford crashed a helicopter during a flying lesson in 1999.
