Harrison Ford spotted on Newcastle Quayside during break in Indiana Jones filming

Hollywood legend Harrison Ford has been spotted on Newcastle Quayside during a break in filming the new Indiana Jones film.

On Tuesday there was great excitement in North Shields went the 78-year-old surprised customers at The Ship's Cat by calling into the popular haunt by the coast.

The picture of Harrison at the restaurant in his cycling gear quickly spread like wildfire on social media, with The Ship's Cat sharing it on their Instagram and writing: "Imagine sitting here enjoying your coffee then you look over and it's.... Indiana Jones!

"What an honour to have Harrison ford join us today on the decking here at the Ship's Cat! You are welcome back anytime. What a legend!"

Harrison, who has also been spotted in North Yorkshire, chose a spot further down the road to visit early on Wednesday afternoon when he walked through the doors of popular Asian restaurant and glam nightspot Aveika.

The venue, in the premises formerly occupied by Chase bar, has been something of a celeb mecca since it opened at the end of 2015, with sporting stars Floyd Mayweather and Tyson Fury heading there, as well as Newcastle United players and reality TV stars.

A spokesperson for Aveika told Chronicle Live that, after attracting his fair share of attention, Harrison, who has also starred in the likes of The Fugitive and as Han Salo in the Star Wars films, didn't stay at the restaurant for too long.

One eagle eyed city centre driver clocked him and later tweeted: "driving down the quayside and Harrison Ford casually strolls past the car and into Aveika, wtf hahahaha"

And a diner at the recently opened Hard Rock Cafe got a shock when they spotted him nearby after leaving the restaurant.

They tweeted: "Brilliant trip to the @HardRock in Newcastle. And spotted #HarrisonFord on the quayside. Which was nice..."

The Air Force One actor was also pictured walking further along the Quayside, with the Tyne Bridge and Sage Gateshead in the background.

On Tuesday he was seen cycling on the banks of the River Tyne as filming on the fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise continues in the region, with excitement in both Bamburgh and in the North Yorkshire village of Grosmont at the cast and crew descend to shoot scenes.

Harrison's visit to the North East even made Lorraine on Wednesday, when showbiz pundit Ross King dropped the bombshell that Harrison wasn't actually the first choice to play action hero Indiana Jones.

Ross revealed the first choice was Magnum PI actor Tom Selleck, who later went on to star as Monica's much older boyfriend Richard in Friends.
