Harrison Ford may need to quit Indiana Jones filming to 'get surgery' after injury

Harrison Ford might need to take a 'four to five-week' break from filming the latest Indiana Jones movie after sustaining a shoulder injury on-set.

The Star Wars legend, 78, was rehearsing a fight scene for the fifth instalment - in which he is reprising his role as the titular archaeologist icon - when he got injured.

Deadline initially reported that director James Mangold will continue to shoot other elements of the film around the actor receiving treatment, requiring the schedule to be reshuffled.

And now, a source has claimed that the star will need an operation.

"He was filming an action scene on a train within Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire when he felt it go," the source revealed.

They continued to The Sun : "He aggravated an old injury but it's bad enough for him to require surgery to put it right.

"The crew have been warned that there could be a four to five-week break in filming at the very least."

Mirror have contacted reps for comment.

Disney originally released a statement regarding Harrison's injuries on Wednesday.

In a statement from Disney to Deadline, the studio said: "In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder."

They added: "Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks."

The new Indiana Jones movie comes 13 years after the release of the fourth film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

It began filming in the UK earlier this month, with Harrison being pictured enjoying a slap-up meal in a North Shields restaurant called The Ship's Cat.

Indiana Jones 5 has a stellar cast, including Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen and Avengers: Age of Ultron actor Thomas Kretschmann.

Other cast members are Logan star Boyd Holbrook, Black Panther actress Shaunette Renée Wilson, and British thespian Toby Jones in supporting roles.

It is currently unknown if actress Karen Allen will reprise her role as Indiana Jones' wife Marion Ravenwood in the next film, with the characters having married at the end of the fourth film.

The previous film also introduced the couple's son Mutt Williams, portrayed by actor Shia LaBeouf, but the character has been confirmed to not return for the new film.

Steven Spielberg was previously due to return to direct the film but will instead return as only a producer, with Logan director James Mangold being confirmed last year.
