Hollywood icon Harrison Ford will definitely reprise his role as Indiana Jones for a fifth film in the franchise, according to producer Kathleen Kennedy.
77-year-old Harrison will be back as the heroic archaeologist for another outing following the critically-panned 2008 film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Speaking at the 2020 BAFTAs, Lucasfilm president Kennedy revealed some exciting details about the new film.
"We’re working away getting the script where we want it to be and we’ll be ready to go,” she told BBC News after accepting her BAFTA Fellowship award.
It was then that Kennedy confirmed Ford's involvement and that the next film would indeed be a sequel.
She revealed: "Oh, Harrison Ford will be involved. It’s not a reboot, it’s a continuation. [Harrison] can’t wait. He absolutely is [involved].”
Harrison first played Indiana Jones in the iconic 1981 adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark.
This was followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989, and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008.
There was also a television spin-off The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, which ran from 1992 to 1993.
In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indy was revealed to have had a son in Mutt Williams, played by Shia LaBeouf, however, he is not expected to return for the sequel.
The previous outing also saw Indy marry Mutt's mother Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) at the conclusion of the story.
It is unknown how much of their relationship will feature in the sequel.
Indiana Jones 5 will be released in cinemas on July 9, 2021.
