With the 115th selection in the NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns have selected Florida Atlantic tight end, Harrison Bryant. Cleveland has broken away from its hold on SEC prospects and snagged an offensive play-maker from C-USA in Bryant. He comes with plenty of accolades including the John Mackey Award, which was given to the nation’s best tight end.
Strengths: The Browns snagged another steal in Bryant who has the ideal size to win 50-50 contests or be a threat in the red-zone at 6-5 and 243 pounds. He knows how to utilize his unique length as illustrated by his 1,004 yards and seven touchdowns from this past season. Bryant has a big-time ceiling and it would not surprise me if he played heavy minutes early and often.
Weaknesses: Bryant is big enough to play inline, but he doesn’t like to and is a non-factor as a blocker and that was against lesser competition. Hopefully the staff can make him more efficient in this area, but if he can’t do it in the C-USA, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Bryant is a fine athlete, but he isn’t going to explode in and out of breaks or rack up the YAC as he is more straight-line than lateral.
