A new poll has California Attorney General Kamala Harris widening her lead over Rep. Loretta Sanchez by double digits in their contest for a California Senate seat.
The poll was conducted by the James Irvine Foundation and the Public Policy Institute of California. Pollsters conducted phone interviews with 1,704 adult residents of the state, which included 1,024 likely voters. The margin of error for likely voters was 4.3 percentage points.
Harris leads the race by 22 points, compared to her seven point lead in the September edition of the poll.
Harris has largely received the backing of the national and state Democratic establishment. She won the endorsement of President Barack Obama and Sen. Barbara Boxer, whom Harris is running to succeed.
Notably, Harris leads among white and African-American voters, while Sanchez holds a slight lead among Latino voters.
The poll also showed a majority of Democrats favor Harris but 45 percent of supporters of Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump said they would not vote in the Senate race, which is between two Democrats.
