Harris O'Connor gets Hibs transfer shot as ex-Rangers man aims to impress Jack Ross

Harris O’Connor has been handed the chance to win a deal at Hibs.

The defender has been in training at HTC and Jack Ross runs the rule over the former Rangers man as he looks to strengthen his back line, reports the Daily Record.

Paul Hanlon has missed the last two games after suffering a head knock and with just veteran Darren McGregor as back up, Ross is keen to add depth at that end of the pitch.

O’Connor left Ibrox in the summer and has had plenty of interest from England.

Stoke City, Burnley and Sheffield United have all had the 19-year-old in for a look and while he is waiting to hear if some of those clubs will sign him, the chance to impress at Hibs was too good to turn down.

He’ll continue to train with the Easter Road club, who have already tried to land Jamie McCart from St Johnstone this summer.

They had an offer knocked back in July and were expected to return with a second.

St Johnstone have held firm, but the Hibees chances of landing the former ICT defender would improve if the Saints are knocked out of Europe this week.

They face Austrian side LASK at McDiarmid Parkfor a place in the Europa Conference League group stages.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week, Callum Davidson’s men have given themselves a great chance of guaranteeing European football in Perth until Christmas.

Hibs had hoped to do likewise in the same competition, but were eliminated at the third qualifying stage by Croatian outfit Rijeka.
