Several cars of a CSX train derailed off a bridge while crossing the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry, W.V., early Saturday morning, temporarily closing parts of the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, according to the National Park Service.
The derailment occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported, according to the park service, and there were no hazardous materials involved. It was not immediately clear what caused the derailment.
The derailment has closed sites including The Point and John Brown's Fort, as well as parts of the Chesapeake & Ohio National Historical Park and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
Other areas _ including the crossings from Harpers Ferry to the Maryland Heights trail and the C&O Canal towpath, plus the footbridge attached to the CSX bridge _ have been closed.
The footbridge is also part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Visitors should contact the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for updates about its status.
