Harold Hill crash: Police seek witnesses after pedestrian, 58, killed in suspected hit-and-run

A pedestrian was knocked down and killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash in east London.

Officers were called at around 12.10am on Saturday to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians in Harold Hill, Romford.

A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, on Petersfield Avenue at the junction with St Neots Road. His next of kin have been informed.

A second pedestrian, also 58, was taken by London Ambulance Service to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The 36-year-old driver did not stop at the scene. He was arrested a short time later on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He has since been released under investigation, Scotland Yard said.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the car leaving the scene.

Anyone who was driving in the area with dash cam footage is asked to come forward.

Those with information can call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874 or via 101 quoting reference Cad 105 of July 11.
