Harmanpreet Kaur furious as costly fielding blunders let India down against NZ in Women's T20 World Cup

NEW DELHI: Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was visibly frustrated after Renuka Singh's sloppy fielding let the team down in their opening Women's T20 World Cup match against New Zealand in Dubai.

Renuka’s misfield cost India valuable four runs as the ball raced to the boundary. Harmanpreet, known for her competitive spirit, expressed her displeasure on the field, highlighting the importance of sharp fielding in tight matches.

The incident occurred on the second ball of the sixth over when NZ batter Georgia Plimmer ran down the track looking to loft seamer Arundhati Reddy down the ground, but it went towards square leg off the inner half and Renuka let it slipped straight through her hands despite running hard from deep square leg.

Suzie Bates got a life a ball later when she looked to smash Reddy into the leg-side, but it took the top-edge and went straight up, wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh settled under it quite well, but made a mess of an easy sitter at the end, since she couldn't hold on as the ball swirled around.

India’s performance suffered due the fielding lapses. The incident underscored the need for India to tighten their fielding as the tournament progresses.
