Harley Quinn and Wanda Maximoff in the top Halloween 2021 costume trends for adults

It's October 1st, meaning it's officially spooky season and Halloween is rapidly approaching.

One of the perks of Halloween, whether you are an adult or a kid, is getting to decide what you are going to wear on the costume-filled holiday.

With the big day on it's way, many of us will not want to be caught unaware as we try and find the perfect costume for this years festivities, which can be difficult these days as Halloween outfits have rapidly changed since over the years.

Gone are the simple days of just looking for a classic scary outfit, such as a witch or a vampire - though these are still valid and popular Halloween choices.

Nowadays, you have a whole host of popular characters and TV references that seem to be all the rage for Halloween costumes, and it can be daunting choosing just one for the big day.

To help you out with the costume department, we have broken down just a few of the most popular costume trends that look to be on trend for this years spooky festivities. From your classic vampire outfits, to referencing one of your favourite pop culture characters, there is something for everyone this year.

Harley Quinn

In terms of superhero costumes, it should come as no surprise that Harley Quinn will be a massive choice for party goers again this year. With Suicide Squad hitting the big screens this year, Harley's popularity is once again back in the spotlight and will give you a fun outfit to wear.

Wanda Maximoff

WandaVision captured the attention of viewers everywhere earlier this year, so it's no surprise that another superhero makes the list of Halloween costumes to choose from this year. As Wanda is a witch, so it fits with the Halloween theme and can be pretty easy to replicate.

Spider-Man

A classic superhero outfit for both adult and kids alike. Spider-Man is one of the most popular choices around Halloween and it's a costume that will help keep you on trend with the superhero craze, as well as being able to live up to your childhood dream of being a superhero.

Bridgerton

If you're looking for something a bit more elegant rather than scary, then you could consider dressing up as one of the Bridgerton characters. The hit Netflix show was on everyone's radar earlier this year and is a popular choice among adults. You can easily turn into one of the characters by bagging yourself a vintage dress, brocade jacket, and some sleek gloves to channel your inner Daphne or Simon.

Beth Harmon

If you were as obsessed with the Netflix show, The Queens Gambit, then you may be considering dressing up as the iconic Beth Harmon for your Halloween party. It's a perfect choice for anyone looking to go with a bit more of a retro outfit. Just don a red wig (if you don't already have red hair) and grab a 50's or 60's styled outfit and you are there.

Cat

If you're looking for a low maintenance costume, then look no further than the classic cat outfit. There's multiple ways you can don this Halloween trend. From simply popping on some cat ears and drawing whiskers on your face, to going full out with a sleek black catsuit.

Joker

If a superhero is not your thing this year, then you could consider the popular Joker as a choice of costume for this years Halloween. There are many versions for you to choose from, but the Joker from Joaquin Phoenix's 2019 Joker movie looks to be the top spot this year.

Vampire

This is one fang-tastic Halloween trend that you can play around with. It's a simple and classic trend, but it still gives you the scare vibes that Halloween is all about.

So, whether you choose to stay simple with a classic outfit such as a vampire or a cat, or choose to dress up as your favourite character, this year's trends give you a whole host of choices.

Zombie

From an undead walker from the Walking Dead, to a zombified version of your favourite character, Zombie outfits look to be another classic trend for you to rock this year. You could also put your own spin on one of your favourite characters, as some stores are selling zombified Disney princess outfits - how's that for a scary princess look?
