Harlequins complete signing of 'deadly finisher' Niki Goneva

Harlequins have announced the signing of Niki Goneva, the flying Fijian winger who has played for Leicester and Newcastle.

Goneva, 35, is the second winger they have signed in two days, after Travis Ismaiel joined from the Blue Bulls.

Quins needed strengthening in that department, with Nathan Earle, who made a real impression on his first season at the club, facing a lengthy recovery after rupturing knee ligaments in April and Tim Visser recently retiring.

Goneva joined Leicester in 2012 before moving to Newcastle three years ago. He scored 70 tries across those two spells, and is known as one of the deadliest finishers in the Premiership.

“It’s a real coup for us to secure the signing of Niki to bolster our squad from next season,” said Head of Rugby Paul Gustard.

“His mixture of strength and speed, coupled with his experience and his continued determination and desire to succeed will complement the strengths of our current players. He has been a success wherever he has been because he is talented and competitive but primarily because he is positive and a good human being.”
