Haris Belkebla in Rangers link as Algeria international midfielder faces transfer choice

Rangers have made an approach to Ligue 1 side Brest over their defensive midfielder Haris Belkebla, according to a report in France.

L’Équipe suggest the Ibrox men could firm up their move quickly with a bid for the star who enjoyed a consistent season in the French top flight before the coronavirus crisis brought it to an early end.

RC Lens are also said to be in for the attack minded star after they lost out on Kévin N’Doram, who chose to go to Metz instead.

Belkebla came through the youth ranks at Valenciennes before making his breakthrough at Tours. He signed for Brest in 2018 and has played 59 times for the club, scoring one goal.

The 26-year-old Algerian is contracted until June 2022 and has one cap for his country but was the subject of controversy when he was kicked out of the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

Manager Djamel Belmadi decided to throw him out after the player flashed his bum on a live Twitch video of a teammate playing Fortnite.

Steven Gerrard admitted that more players will be on the way into Ibrox in the weeks ahead as he and Ross Wilson sift through potential targets.

He said: "We are still chasing targets behind the scenes – we have numerous targets that we want to bring in to strengthen us and help us over the course of next season.

“So without giving too much away, it is exciting times to be at Rangers.”
