Haridasan murder: Cops arrest six more accused

KOZHIKODE: Police arrested six persons, including two who were allegedly part of the killer gang that killed CPM activist K Haridasan (54) at Punnol near Thalassery. Police arrested Punnol natives and RSS-BJP activists Kochara Dineshan and Prajutti who were allegedly part of the gang that attacked Haridasan near his home on Feb 20.

This is the first instance of persons, who were directly involved in the crime, being arrested in the case. Also CK Arjun (23) of Kizhakkayil House at Punnol, Abhimanyu K (22) of Sopanam House at Temple Gate, CK Aswanth (23) and Deepak Sadanandan (29) from Punnol were arrested under conspiracy charges on Tuesday. It is learnt that Punnol native Prajith alias Multi Prajith and another resident of New Mahe are in police custody and are being interrogated. With today's arrest the total number of persons arrested in the case has risen to 10.

Meanwhile, police are questioning the four arrested accused including BJP Thalassery mandalam president and municipal councillor K Lijesh, KV Vimin, Amal Manoharan and Sumesh alias Mani who are now in police custody.

The remand report submitted before Thalassery JFCM court (with regard to the first four arrested accused) had said that the arrested persons had hatched a conspiracy to kill Haridasan out of political enmity and he was killed by another team of BJP workers.

According to police sources the accused had tried to make bid on the life of Haridasan earlier as well following the clash which happened during the temple festival at Punnol on February 8 in which BJP and CPM activists were involved. According to the police, the attack on Haridasan was carried out after detailed planning.
