Harehills street brawl leaves teen, 18, in hospital with several stab wounds

A teenager remains in hospital in a serious condition after being repeatedly stabbed in the back during a fight in Harehills.

Police rushed to the junction of Seaforth Avenue and Seaforth Terrace at around 2.45pm yesterday (Wednesday) after a call from a member of the public about a street brawl.

A group of men are believed to have been involved in the incident which left an 18-year-old with serious injuries after he was stabbed a number of times.

Paramedics took the injured man straight to hospital, where he is still receiving treatment. His injuries are serious, but they are not thought to be life-threatening.

A cordon was put in place at the scene as detectives and forensics officers arrived on Wednesday afternoon. Seaforth Avenue was still taped off in both directions this morning (Thursday), more than 12 hours on from the incident.

It marks the second stabbing in the space of a week in the area. Last week, a man was stabbed multiple times a short distance away on Strathmore Drive.

A nearby resident said: "[It's] no surprise. An area where street drinking is commonplace, gangs of teenagers roam the streets, drug dealing from properties is well known, and little is done to combat it.

"Residents are getting fed up with it all."

Speaking about the latest incident on Seaforth Avenue, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Initial enquiries are taking place to determine what took place and detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

"Anyone who has information is asked to contact Leeds District CID on 101 referencing police log 912 of August 26."

You can also get in touch with the force via their online chat service or you can give information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
