Hardworking Dumbarton FC supporters give the Rock a spruce up

Hardworking Dumbarton FC fans helped to spruce up the Sons home last week, as the club continued preparations for the start of the new football season in October.

A hardy band of volunteers gave up their time last Thursday to ensure that Sons’ C&G Systems Stadium will look spick and span when professional sport eventually returns to G82.

Supporters Brian Ferguson, Andrew Brown, Graeme Robertson, Katrina Watson, Grant Hamilton, Douglas Allan, Dylan Ellis, Chloe Louise, Denise Currie, Jo McBride, Cameron McIlroy, Max Clarke, Fraser Mullen and Tom Arnott got to work on a variety of tasks, from cleaning some of the 2000 seats in the ground, to tidying up the trophy cabinet and cutting back growth in the car park.

Arnott said: “After such a long time away from football we were pretty keen to do anything to get back involved.

“We had the time free and that made it a no-brainer to head along and give the stadium a bit of a tidy up.”

Whilst fellow supporter Fraser Mullen added: “There’s something that’s just really special about being in a football ground - especially after such a long time away.

“I was more than happy to sign up quickly to help out and really enjoyed it.

“Hopefully it won’t be too long before we’re all back properly again though, because the last four months have felt like forever.”

Sons’ general manager Antonia Love heaped praise on the hardworking supporters.

She said: “All the volunteers were a credit to the club.

“Although the league kick-off is three months away, we need to ensure the stadium remains in good nick.

“A special mention also to safety officer and disability access officer, Jacqui Sibbald, who has done a power of work over the last few months ranging from painting of floors to tidying out rooms to organising kit with myself to making sure everywhere is cleaned and sanitised.

“There’s no task she won’t get stuck into.”
