Hardworking dad has livelihood snatched by 'scumbag'

A hardworking dad has had his "livelihood" snatched by a "scumbag" thief.

Barry Durrant, from Birkdale, has been a builder for 38 years.

His daughter Bethany says he was devastated to wake up on Wednesday to find his power tools had been taken from his work van.

Bethany said: "People can't have anything nowadays. My dad has been a builder his entire life, this has ruined his whole day and he is worried it's going to happen to other people."

After posting about it in a local crime watch group on Facebook, Bethany was inundated with comments.

One woman called the thief a "scumbag", while another said the theft had been carried out by "the lowest of the low".

Merseyside Police confirmed a report of power tools being stolen from a van parked on Guildford Road at around 1am on Wednesday (August 18).

The thief took tools including four power drills and one still saw.

Enquiries are being carried out and police have asked anyone with any information to come forward.

Community Inspector Graham Fisher said “This theft and all similar incidents cause massive inconvenience to those affected, people who are merely carrying out their daily business within our communities.

“If you were in the Birkdale area in the early hours of this morning and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know as information that you hold could be vital to our enquiries.”

Anyone with any information on these incidents is asked to contact police via MerpolCC on Twitter, or message Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook quoting reference 21000574746.
