Hardman Venom star Tom Hardy's secret wish to play 'soft and nice' romcom guy

Movie hardman Tom Hardy says he fancies a dramatic career change... playing men who are “soft and nice” .

The star said he is not at all like the string of violent baddies he has brought to life on the screen, and longs to show audiences his softer side.

Hardy, 44, famously portrayed notorious gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray in Legend, and the infamous serial hostage taker Charles Bronson in Bronson. But now he’d even consider a ‘horendous romcom’.

And he’s already given fans a glimpse of his true self, appearing on CBeebies to read kids’ bedtime stories like There’s a Tiger in the Garden.

Tom said: “I think all the baddies and all those sorts of ‘grrrrr’ characters that I’ve played, I’m not that. It’s actually much harder to mimic things that are soft and nice and intimate if you don’t grow up in that way.

“Now I’m getting older these things are becoming less scary.”

Speaking in the autumn edition of Esquire magazine, Tom added: “Who knows? You might see me doing some horrendous romcoms.”

In his latest blockbuster movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, he plays a journalist whose body hosts a parasitic alien.

But the actor, who famously beat alcohol and drugs addictions in his twenties, also has three children and said family life was becoming his priority as he grew older.
