Hardline Rangers fanatic stews over Morelos and Kent farewell as plan for pair leaves him queasy – Hotline

There's bound to be a few fond farewells bid at Ibrox on Wednesday night as the curtain drops on a number of Rangers careers.

But the Ibrox faithful calling the Hotline appear split over which of their departing stars will be given a warm send-off as Michael Beale’s team host Hearts in their final home game of the campaign. Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “I was disappointed to hear Michael Beale say that he would give the Rangers support the chance to bid farewell to Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent on Wednesday. I hope that does not mean they will be given minutes. Both players have tried to hold Rangers to ransom and can easily relay a message through Rangers TV. They will both soon realise their mistake and will be begging to return by Christmas.”

But Lawrence Dunlop emailed in: “I’ll be so sad to see Morelos and Kent go. This season hasn’t panned out as we would have hoped but those two players have given the Ibrox support so many special memories down the years and deserve the chance to wave goodbye during the Hearts game. It’s bound to be an emotional night with the likes of Allan McGregor and potentially Scott Arfield leaving too. Hopefully we get a good result to mark the occasion.”

Meanwhile, George Wilson’s claim in Monday’s Hotline that Celtic have been a Euro “laughing stock” for the past 20 years continues to stir a reaction.

Henry Moffat, Stirling, was first to bite, saying: “You can really sense the fear in caller George Wilson’s words as he slowly realises that Celtic could be about to secure a world-record eighth Treble in the same season that Rangers became a laughing stock across world football for becoming the worst team in Champions League history. What a double celebration that would be!”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, chipped in: “What’s this George Wilson on about slagging Celtic being a laughing stock in Europe for 20 years? Well George, Rangers have the worst record in Europe so just leave the champions out of this!”

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “George Wilson has returned from his long holiday to declare everyone wants to draw Celtic in the Champions League. Surely the preference would be to play the ‘worst ever team’ … if they qualify?”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, added: “With Celtic having scored 107 goals maybe next season the league bosses should inflict a penalty on them next season. Opponents should get at least a three goal start to even it up!”

Iain McIntosh, Glasgow, called to discuss the thrilling end to the SWPL season, saying: “I was among the 15,800 at Parkhead on Sunday. A record domestic crowd for a Scottish women's football fixture - a momentous day for sure, however there's a big but here. It's a shame thousands were singing about the IRA, Boys of the Old Brigade and building a bonfire. Hearts had a 16-year old-girl in goals for the second half. Just let that sink in. Imagine that was your daughter. It would be so sad to see the women’s game go the same way as the men's version, where fans have to go and listen to songs that have nothing to do with the beautiful game.”

Dundee United fan Kenny Goff has had enough of Tannadice goalie Mark Birighitti. He said: “The United keeper is a total BOMBSCARE. He definitely has to be first on list to go if we do go down Put the young keeper Jack Newman on. Surely he can’t be that bad!”
