Harden, Rockets roll out red carpet runway for opener in Houston

The Houston Rockets rolled out the red carpet — literally — before their 2019-20 regular-season opener on Thursday night at Toyota Center versus the Milwaukee Bucks.

Between guards James Harden and Russell Westbrook, forward P.J. Tucker, and center Tyson Chandler, the Rockets have several of the NBA’s most fashion-conscious players.

“We might have the best-dressed team in the history of the sport,” Harden said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. … “First game of the season, you’re gonna see a lot of swag.”

Led by Harden, the team clearly delivered on that promise. The “swag” included a literal red carpet runway on the players’ way into the arena, complete with music and a live DJ.

It’s unclear if the team’s red carpet fashion show concept will stick around throughout the upcoming season, or if it was a one-time occurrence for the opener.

As for basketball, Thursday’s nationally televised game between the Rockets and Bucks features the NBA’s last three Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winners in Harden, Westbrook, and Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. It tipped off at 7 p.m. local time in Houston.
