Harden, Gordon and Tucker picked to attend USA basketball minicamp

James Harden, Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker were selected to attend the USA Basketball Men’s National Team training camp in Las Vegas.

The Houston Rockets are the only team with more than two representatives.

The minicamp will run from August 5-9. Then, the team finalists will train in Los Angeles from August 13-15 before the official 12-member roster for the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Team is announced on August 17.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup takes place in China from August 31 through September 15. The best seven teams then qualify directly for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Jason Biles, the Rockets head athletic trainer/director of athlete care and science, is serving as the athletic trainer for Team USA through the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the team also announced Monday.
Harden, who recently was named a unanimous All-NBA First Team selection for the third straight season, averaged a league-leading and career-high 36.1 points per game in 2018-19. He also added an average 7.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 2.03 steals. The reigning MVP won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 Olympics and the 2014 World Cup.
Gordon had a fantastic postseason with the Rockets and was the team’s second-leading scorer with 17.8 points per game. He won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 World Cup. It is awesome to see the veteran defender and team leader making moves for the USA Basketball team.
Tucker, who is also known for his stellar defense and tenacious spirit, averaged 11.4 points per game in the 2019 playoffs and won a gold medal at the 2004 FIBA Americas Under-20 Championship along with fellow Rockets teammate Chris Paul.
