Police searching for missing man to close section of M8 motorway

Police are to close off the hard shoulder and one lane of the M8 in both directions this weekend to facilitate searches for missing man Billy McDowell.

The 58-year-old, from Whitburn, was last seen on Friday, July 31 in the town, and vanished without his daily medication - sparking concerns with his family.

His family have since offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the person(s) responsible for Billy's disappearance or for his safe return.

Police confirm that the hard shoulder and lane one of the M8 will be closed in both directions between Junction Four (Whitburn) and Junction Four A (Heartlands Interchange) on Saturday (September 19) and Sunday (September 20) between 8:30am and 8pm to help search for Billy.

They are advising drivers who may be travelling on the M8 in the area to allow extra time for their journey.
