Harbourside restaurant The Cuban closes suddenly

One of the restaurants in the Harbourside has suddenly closed its doors to the public.

The Cuban in Millennium Parade has closed after being in the city centre since 2014.

According to notices in the windows of the restaurant, the landlord of the premises forfeited the lease to the Wharf Hotel Limited (trading as 'The Cuban').

The owners have until July 9 to remove any items still inside otherwise they will be removed and sold at auction to recover costs.

The notice adds anyone attempting to re-enter the property by force or without the landlord's permission will be guilty of criminal damage.

The Cuban's presence in the Harbourside has not been without controversy.

Last year, police had asked councillors to revoke the Harbourside eatery’s licence  – effectively closing it –  amid complaints it was operating as a bar: staying open late, keeping residents up into the early hours and allowing glass outside.

In response, the team at The Cuban admitted they sometimes stayed open too late but insisted they were making more of an effort to close at a sensible time and keep the noise under wraps.

Despite police concerns, Bristol City Council’s licensing committee decided to allow The Cuban to stay open back in August 2018.

The council has confirmed it is not involved in the closure.
