Harbour closes for urgent repairs for 30 days after multiple defects found

A HARBOUR will close for 30 days to allow repairs to significant damage while measures to offer better protection against storms will also be installed.

Work has begun to repair concrete below the waterline at Stonehaven's outer harbour.

An annual inspection by divers earlier this year found 15 defects requiring immediate repair.

The work, which will also see the installation of better storm protection at the entrance to the inner harbour, will be undertaken by Aberdeen Marine Ltd and is expected to take around a month.

Repairs on the deck of the breakwater pier caused by winter storm damage will also take place.

Aberdeenshire Council said the outer harbour is closed to all vessels while the work is carried out, and the breakwater is also fenced off from the public.

However, access to the Seafood Bothy will still be available.
