Happy Valley star James Norton sums up the finale in six words

It's just days away now to the Happy Valley finale on Sunday, and excitement is building as fans wait to find out what will happen to Sergeant Catherine Cawood and her clan and escaped psychopath Tommy Lee Royce. Another major loose end to tie up in the last ever episode is the pressing matter of abused wife Joanna Hepworth, whose body was discovered in a suitcase with her husband framed for her murder by chemist Faisal Bhatti.

At the end of last Sunday's gripping episode, Tommy was hiding out after escaping from court as he prepared to stand trial for murder. Meanwhile his conflicted son Ryan found out the terrible truth that his killer father had raped his mum before he was born, and his granny Catherine had raised him in the face of the rest of the family not wanting him.

Fans were delivered a cliffhanger as Tommy, who has been crowned 'TV's sexiest psychopath by viewers', contacted Ryan via their games consoles and asked him to join him in starting a new life in Spain together. Actor James Norton, who has played vile Tommy since the series launched in 2014, shared a dramatically teasing trailer released by the BBC on his Instagram.

I need to see Catherine drive off into the sunset in the Land-rover!!" smokeymunroe commented: "We did many lists at work today to try and work out: who would die, who goes to prison, who is just ok. Many lists were formed and we still couldn't work out the ending." And lottie_lottiex swooned about Tommy's latest look in the series: "Can you raffle off that blue hoody James? no need to wash it."

Fans are trying to work out what it can all mean from a trailer that is just 16 seconds long. One of the scenes shows Ryan being questioned by police about when he last had contact with Tommy.

A series of frantic scene also include officers hurriedly charging out of the police station, Tommy with a bloodied face appearing to be kicking something, or someone, in a field, and worryingly Tommy creeping around in Catherine's house. The 16-second trailer ends with a shot of heroic Catherine, played by Sarah Lancashire, in tears.

She can be heard saying: "He's still out there. He's going to be angry and he's going to be even more desperate and dangerous." Happy Valley will have an extended episode of an hour and eight minutes from 9pm on Sunday.
