Happy Valley prime filming spots awash with heartbroken fans as show aired finale

Throughout 2023, fans of Happy Valley have been spending their Sunday evenings immersed in the drama surrounding Sergeant Catherine Cawood.

However, the BBC One crime drama aired its final episode last weekend (February 5) which left dedicated viewers with a mixture of emotions. Many hailed the show has 'brilliant and fantastic' while some were even brought to a tear knowing that it was ending.

The series was primarily filmed in at various locations in the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire. In order to mark the end of Happy Valley, a reporter visited one of the show's prime locations - Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire Live reports.

One fan of the show, Caroline, purposely visited Hebden Bride on Monday to see the locations featured in Happy Valley. "I thought it was absolutely amazing, so gripping, I thought the scene with just Catherine and Tommy was highly emotional - I actually had a tear in my eye for him and for her," she said.

"We're here today just to have a look around, looking for the locations, I've just been to the Nisa where he works and I'm now going to Catherine's house."

Two other such TV tourists, Vicky and Craig, were also on the hunt to find the film locations. Vicky said: "We're here to look for locations, loads of people are. We loved it, although we didn't watch the first two series until this year and we caught up and binge watched it.

Craig said: "We love it, we watched it all in about six weeks."

Vicky added: "We liked the finale, although I'm not sure if I were expecting a bit more of a dramatic finale, some sort of explosion or some something. It was good, but we've also discussed we don't think they have concluded the pharmacist and what's happened to him, whether he got his comeuppance sort of thing. But apart from that it was really good."

One person said: "I thought it was great, I thought it was perfect, I watched a lot of it through my fingers - I really wanted the finale to be good because the rest of it had been so good and it was great. It was very realistic too.

"It makes a difference when you know the place too, we've been talking today and it made you reflect on quite a lot more and I was a bit bigger than the series - it was thought-provoking."

Diane said: "If it hadn't had been on weekly and if they just showed it all at once I would have just watched one after the other. It was addictive. I know Hebden quite well so it makes a difference, when you know the place."

Others said: "It was absolutely brilliant" and "it was a brilliant ending, we loved it." Another couple added: "It was alright, we didn't expect that."
