Happy Valley fans 'work out' who gave Tommy Lee Royce Ryan's username - it wasn't his son

Happy Valley viewers have suggested that someone else gave Ryan Cawood's gaming tag to Tommy Lee Ryan - with the speculation supporting a shocking theory!

It comes ahead of the BBC show concluding on Sunday night, with fans having been sharing their predictions about what will unfold in the much-anticipated finale recently.

It's expected that there will be a showdown between Sergeant Catherine Cawood (played by Sarah Lancashire ) and Tommy Lee Royce ( James Norton ).

And fans are predicting that there could be a few twists in the final episode, with one of them potentially hinted at with a scene that featured in the latest episode.

The latest episode of Happy Valley saw Tommy Lee Royce (played by James Norton, pictured) contact his son Ryan Cawood through a game console (BBC)

It saw Tommy contact his son Ryan (Rhys Connah) whilst in hiding. He reached out to him through a chat on a game console, with the pair subsequently having a voice chat.

Tommy claimed to have remembered his son's username from "ages ago," but Ryan didn't seem to particularly recall telling him. Asked if he remembered, he said: "Kind of".

Some viewers have suggested that it wasn't Ryan who provided his gaming tag, with them instead speculating that his great-aunt's boyfriend Neil Ackroyd ( Con O'Neill ) did.

He said that Ryan (played by Rhys Connah, pictured) had given him his username some time ago (BBC)

One tweeted this week: "I bet Neil gave Tommy Ryan's gaming handle. I'm convinced he has more to do with it".

Whilst another wrote recently: "Might Tommy have been able to contact Ryan via the game cos it was Neil who shared his ID? Ryan didn't recall sharing that info with him."

A third said: "Tommy said he'd memorised Ryan's gamer tag but did Neil give it him?" In response, one viewer said: "Good pick up! Ryan seemed sure that he hadn't given it to him".

Another reacted to the theory by tweeting: "Ooh, this is a good theory [...] Maybe Neil has got some connection to Tommy?!" Some fans think this might be the case.

Some fans however think Neil Ackroyd (played by Con O'Neill, right) may have given it to Tommy (BBC/Lookout Point/Matt Squire)

The speculation supports a theory about Neil, with some fans convinced he's actually Tommy's father. One tweeted recently: "Anyone else thinking Neil is Tommy's dad?"

"Got a horrible feeling Neil is Tommy Lee Royce's dad. [...] Would explain why he was taking Ryan to see him," said another. A third said: "Still convinced Neil is Tommy's dad".

Another tweeted: "I wonder whether Neil [is] Tommy's father? It kind of makes sense." Whilst a fifth suggested about the character: "Neil's pulling the strings all along".

There's a theory that Neil, who's in a relationship with Ryan's great-aunt Clare Cartwright (played by Siobhan Finneran, centre) is Tommy's father (BBC/Lookout Point/Matt Squire)

Others have noted that it may be why he was willing to take Ryan to visit Tommy in prison and could explain his chance encounter with Clare Cartwright ( Siobhan Finneran ), which has led to him becoming part of Ryan's family.

One viewer said: "Neil bumping into Claire in the earlier series was definitely orchestrated". Another similarly questioned whether the character had "targeted" Claire.

Another said on the platform recently: "I've never trusted his intentions. There's got to be a big plot twist somewhere with him encouraging Ryan to see his dad in prison".

Fans will have to watch the Happy Valley finale on Sunday night (February 5) to see whether the theory is right. The episode will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 9pm.
