Happy Valley fans spot crucial 'clue' on Catherine's fate ahead of final ever episode

Happy Valley fans are waiting with bated breath for Sunday's final ever episode which, if the series so far is anything to go by, is sure to leave us all on the edge of our seats.

The extended episode is likely to see a dramatic final showdown between Sergeant Catherine Cawood, played by Sarah Lancashire, and escaped convict Tommy Lee Royce, played by James Norton. With no character safe from Tommy's murderous tendencies, viewers have been left concerned about the fate of their favourites and whether they will make it to the end of the series alive.

While the details of the finale have been kept tightly under wraps, one eagle-eyed fan has spotted a clue hidden in plain sight as to what might unfold on Sunday - and it's been under our noses for weeks. Twitter user @David_Chippa spotted the detail on the poster that was released before season three began, which features Catherine, Tommy and Ryan as well as some other hints at the events of the tense episodes.

"Has the ending been staring us in the face all along?" the fan wrote, pointing out that in the bottom right-hand corner of the image there is a bicycle lying on the grass - which now makes sense in the context of the last two episodes in which Tommy used a bike to high-tail it away from Leeds Crown Court after making his escape. But behind it, there is another key detail - what appears to be a huge blaze with smoke billowing into the sky.

A huge fire can be seen in the bottom corner of the poster - could this be a clue for the finale? (BBC)

Given that there hasn't been any sign of a fire so far this series, fans believe that this could be something that comes to pass in the last episode and have shared their theories about what it all could mean for our beloved Happy Valley residents. "Is it a house, in which case, does Tommy try to burn Nev's castle down?" the fan asked.

"Or maybe he sets light to Catherine's place because he can't get a gun?" Viewers will have to tune into BBC One at 9pm on Sunday to find out once and for all, with a teaser released on Monday hinting at what's to come.

The brief clip shows Ryan being questioned by police over when he last heard from his dad, while Sergeant Cawood is seen in tears. "He's still out there," Catherine warns of Tommy. "He's going to be angry, and he's going to be even more desperate and dangerous."
