Happy Valley fans have worked out a possible scenario that would see Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce forced to work together.
Since the penultimate episode of the BBC series aired on Sunday night, viewers have been sharing their predictions for the big finale - with some thinking outside the box when it comes to Tommy and Catherine's fate.
The last installment of Happy Valley saw rapist Tommy (James Norton) taken to a safe house to lie low for five days before being smuggled to Marbella to put his Spanish lessons in prison to use - possibly alongside his son Ryan Cawood.
As Tommy prepared to flee to the Costa del Crime, Sarah Lancashire's character Catherine and her family gathered in millionaire Nevison Gallagher huge property as they tried to figure out how to keep safe while Tommy plans his first jaunt abroad.
Alongside suspecting Nev may have sinister motives for offering his holiday home out, fans of the crime drama have been wondering why Halifax gangster-turned-politician Darius Knezevic helped Tommy escape earlier in the series.
"He's going to sort you out with everything you need, you and the boy," Darius told Tommy as he drove him to a safe house ahead of his trip to Spain.
He then explained that Tommy shouldn't need to contact him and that "a week from now, you'll be in Marbella – you and your boy, laughing your socks off, alright?"
"But why is Darius is helping Tommy to escape? #HappyValley," one viewer mused on Twitter on Sunday night as the episode aired.
Others hoped Darius is tricking Tommy, with one predicting: "Something about the way Darius warned Tommy off killing Catherine. If he ignores him and tries it could Darius be the one to bump Tommy off a la the concrete underpants? #HappyValley."
Another hopefully tweeted: "Please, I’m begging Darius to bump Tommy off because he knows he’s a liability for wanting revenge on Catherine and ruining their whole plan #HappyValley."
But one Happy Valley fan had an entirely different theory, as they predicted how Tommy's son getting caught up in the politician's plans will see Catherine forced to team up with her nemesis.
"I’ve got a #HappyValley theory," they began writing on Twitter.
"The chaps who are working for the Knezevics and started the fight at court, who are also trying to steal their money, kidnap Ryan because he recognises them, and #TommyLeeRoyce and #CathrineCawood have no choice but to work together to save him!"
Another had a similar theory about Ryan's fate, tweeting: "Ryan gets kidnapped, Catherine rescues him but gets stabbed by Tommy (remember,no guns) and is dying... Ryan kills Tommy and Catherine takes the blame on her deathbed. No idea how pharmacist fits in though."
Fans will have to tune over the weekend to find out exactly what happens.
