Happy trails, Gronk! Rob Gronkowski nixes rumors of return to Patriots

Dolphins fans won’t be losing any sleep on this bit of news. Earlier this spring, future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 30. Gronkowski, who has terrorized the Dolphins as a member of the Patriots for the last nine years, caught nine touchdown passes in his 13 career games against Miami.

But it’s off to calmer waters for the man known as Gronk, which he confirmed this weekend during an appearance at Gillette Stadium for a charity event for pediatric cancer titled “One Mission Buzz Off.” Sure, Gronk had called it a career — but there was still speculation amok that at some point the Patriots tight end would get the playing itch and return to action in 2019.

That doesn’t appear to be the case, at least for now.

“Whatever I say, it doesn’t matter. It’ll always be crazy out there. You can put ’em to rest,” said Gronkowski when pressed about rumors he’d consider a comeback. “I’m feeling good; (I’m in) a good place.”

And so too are Dolphins fans, knowing that Gronkowski left the perfect parting gift as he sets off into retirement — a diving missed tackle on Kenyan Drake’s last-gasp touchdown at Hard Rock Stadium.
