Happy Monday's Shaun Ryder has told how he was sacked as a postman for biting a dog

Shaun Ryder has revealed how he was sacked as a postman for biting a dog.

The Happy Monday's frontman was 19 at the time after leaving school and taking up the role as a postie at 15.

But following an encounter with a dog 'snapping at his heels', Shaun said: "Only fair. I did to the dog what it was trying to do to me."

The Madchester legend spoke about his teenage antics with The Sun ahead of the release of a biopic based on his 2011 biography Twisting My Melon.

Explaining the story further, Shaun told the publication: "I had dropped a tab of acid probably to relieve the boredom then on the round as I was stepping up to be promoted to a postman, this terrier dog at a pub I delivered to, tried to attack me.

"So I thought I am not having this, I grabbed it, bit it on its head threw it down and gave a kick up the bum."

But he wasn't 'too bothered' after being caught out as he had just started the band that would propel him to fame.

The 57-year-old explained: "As it went another postman who was passing in his van saw what happened and reported me. That was it I was suspended but I had already started the band so I wasn't too bothered."

The rocker also opened up about being "written off by the system" due to his undiagnosed dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder which led him to "rebel" and begin a "life of petty crime."

Set to start production in the new year, the film will track Shaun's life from his childhood to his career with the Happy Mondays.

He will be played by Skins star Jack O'Connell with Jason Isaacs and Maxine Peake in talks to play his parents.
