Happy Irish couple return to Westmeath hotel where they celebrated wedding 40 years on

Love is... returning to the hotel where you celebrated your wedding 40 years earlier!

Jackie and Tom Connell marked the happiest day of their lives at Bloomfield House, a lakeside hotel in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on September 1, 1979.

And exactly four decades later, they returned on Sunday to toast their ruby anniversary.

It seems the venue runs in the family - their daughter Sinead and her husband Hugh celebrated their wedding reception at the midlands venue in 2015.

Tom, originally from Cullion, Mullingar, said ‘I do’ to Jackie, from Rahan, Co Offaly, in St Carthage’s Church in Killina, Rahan, in 1979, followed by the reception at the then newly opened hotel.

The happy couple now live in Crookedwood, Co Westmeath.

Jackie said: “We were delighted to be back at Bloomfield House 40 years later and were overwhelmed with our ruby celebration.

“The staff looked after us so well, we thank them for a very memorable occasion.”

Sales & Marketing Manager Oliver Gaffey added: “We were thrilled to welcome back Jackie and Tom and their family on this very special occasion and delighted to be part of their celebrations once again.”

The hotel holds Wedding Showcase days on on Sunday, September 16 and Sunday, October 13.
