Every year in the holy month of Sawan, Haryali Teej is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour by Hindu women regardless of whether they are married or single. This day marks the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and it symbolises their marital bliss. On this day, women get up early in the morning, freshen up and wear beautiful green clothes, pray to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and observe a fast for the well-being and long life of their partner. Wearing green bangles also has an important significance in this festival. Many married women don't even drink water during their fast on this day. Over the years though, many married men have also started keeping these fasts for their better halves.
Haryali Teej is also a celebration of the monsoon, which symbolizes rebirth, fertility, and growth. The festival is observed in the lunar month of Sawan, and as per the Hindu calendar, Hariyali Teej is marked on the third day of Shukla Paksha. And so, this year the Tritiya Tithi for Haryali Teej begins from 8 PM on 18 August, while it ends on the next day on August 19 at 10.19 PM. The festival is celebrated with great joy mostly in the northern states of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Haryana.
