Happy first birthday to Guardian Sustainable Business

It's hard to believe that Guardian Sustainable Business is this week celebrating its first anniversary.

So much has happened in our inaugural year, ranging from the launch of eight content hubs and our sell-out quarterly conferences to the creation of professional seminars and our events partnership with Forum for the Future in New York.

Moreover, our sustainability awards, which celebrate best practice, proved even more popular than we were expecting and will soon open again for applications.

What we have discovered is a community of sustainability professionals who are not only eager to learn about what is happening at the cutting edge of their sector but also enthused by the opportunity to debate and offer new perspectives.

From your direct feedback and our readership figures, it is clear there is a strong demand for the stories we are publishing and that is growing month by month.

In our first year, we have had more than 1.2 million page views and 600,000 unique visitors to the site.

Our twitter feed is becoming increasingly popular with more than 7,000 followers and more than 6,000 people have become members of GSB.

We are also delighted by the increasing attention we are getting from the global community of sustainability professionals, ranging from the US to South Africa.

From studying traffic figures for our various blogs, it is clear there is a particular appetite for articles that concentrate on leadership. For example, a piece by Kingfisher CEO Ian Cheshire about the need for business transformation proved to be our most popular story of the year.

Also drawing a lot of attention are our articles that focus on areas such as systemic change and collaboration.

Our anniversary gives us a chance to offer thanks to all those who are involved with GSB.

First and foremost, our appreciation to the stream of leading sustainability experts who write for us, including Tim Jackson, Jonathon Porritt, John Elkington and Jason Clay.

Also to those progressive companies that recognise the scale of the challenges ahead and who support us by sponsoring our content.

We are a small team, and it feels appropriate to give thanks to the staff on GSB who are passionate about sustainability and committed to making the website a success: site editor Caroline Holtum, hubs manager Rosie Bristow and content co ordinator Jenny Purt.

While it already feels as though we have achieved a great deal, we recognise there is more for us to do. The GSB site will continue to highlight issues of importance, which most mainstream media organisations either ignore or cover only intermittently.

We will also be developing our multimedia offering, including a video partnership with Nice and Serious. Look out for our video interviews with Nike, Accenture and WWF.

Also coming up are live-streamed events with Unilever CEO Paul Polman and with a number of CEOs at the annual council meeting of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Finally, we cannot finish without thanking you, our readers, for this site would not add up to much without your active engagement and support.
