Another Produce 101 star comes to Thailand

For Thai fans, Produce 101 is a real mark of quality. Every time a new star from the hit Korean talent show comes to Thailand, it’s a big event, with many concerts selling out. The most recent event, The First Fan Meeting in Bangkok: Be Happy! featured the solo singer, Jeong Se-woon at GMM Live House.

On Produce 101, the 20-year-old impressed viewers when he performed his own song in the first round. He attracted praise for his smooth voice, lyrics and arrangements. Since leaving the show, Se-woon has released two EPs. Ever, featuring the chart-topper “Just U,” came out last year. His second release, After, which includes the latest single, “Baby It's U,” came out in January.

Se-woon’s visit to Thailand came as part of his promotional tour. Ahead of his concert on March 10, the young singer met up with Thai press at Dusit Thani Hotel. Here are some highlights from the interview.

Have you visited Thailand before?

Se-woon: No, this is my first time. I was really surprised to see so many fans at the airport. I was impressed with how well organised they were.

How is the weather for you?

Se-woon: It’s fine. It isn’t as hot as I expected.

How did you get the nickname Ponyo?

Se-woon: My fans gave me the name.

How did you feel when you saw the film Ponyo for the first time?

Se-woon: It was as if I was looking at a photo of myself when I was young.

What’s your favourite Thai dish?

Se-woon: I really enjoyed mango and sticky rice. Real mangos taste amazing. They just melt in your mouth.

Since ice cream is your favourite dessert, what kind of ice cream would you compare your fans to?

Se-woon: I think mango flavour because they’re fantastic and sweet.

Can you tell us about your latest EP, After?

Se-woon: Ever was an introduction so people could get to know me. After is an explanation of who I am. I wrote the lyrics and composed the track, “Close Over.”

What kind of music would you like to write in the future?

Se-woon: I would like to try jazz and rock music.
