Happy Diwali 2019! What is Diwali and how is it celebrated in the UK?

Diwali is one of the most popular celebrations for a number of religions.

Hinduism and other notable faiths celebrate the holiday, which is also known as the Festival of Lights.

The celebration exists to honour the spiritual victory of light over dark and effectively good over evil.

It is a time for gratitude, fun, and for acknowledging the victory of knowledge over ignorance.

The five-day festival will see temples, shops, homes and other buildings lit up to honour the holiday, with the third day carrying a special significance.

But how is Diwali traditionally celebrated in the United Kingdom?

Here is what you need to know.

The Festival of Lights is celebrated in a number of exciting and colourful ways.

Firstly, however, the run-up to the big day will have seen the renovation, cleaning and decorating of the homes of worshippers to prepare for the celebrations.

Worshippers usually participate in festival events and street parties, with a focus on special snacks and delicacies and snacks for the holiday.

The most vital component, however, is the lighting of the traditional candles or earthen diyas for the celebration.

Due to the focus on colours and lights, also expect there to be fireworks, lamps, lanterns, and street lights as the light is used to symbolise the victory of good over evil.

And that's always a cause worth celebrating!

It is also used as worship to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
