Hapless lorry driver tries to wiggle out of trouble after crashing into Fife bridge

This is the moment a careless lorry driver tried to wiggle his way out of trouble after careering into a bridge in Fife.

The incident happened on the B9157 just before the roundabout at Aberdour near Kirkcaldy at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

Stunned onlookers couldn't believe their eyes as they watched the driver desperately trying to reverse after ploughing into the railway bridge.

A witness got their phone out and filmed the calamity before posting the footage on the Fife Jammer Locations Facebook page.

In the post they warned: "Avoid B9157 Dalgety Bay to Kirkcaldy.

"Lorry stuck under rail bridge."

The extent of the damage is not yet known.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.30 pm on Thursday, January 21, a lorry became stuck under a railway bridge on the B9157 just before the roundabout at Aberdour.

"The lorry was freed a very short time later and there were no reports of anyone injured.

"Enquiries are ongoing to access any damage."

The crash caused rush hour chaos, with all trains running through Aberdour station delayed or revised.

A statement on Scotrail's website says: "Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge at Aberdour all lines are closed.

"Train services running through this station will be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 18:45 21/01."
