Two-time Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu is expected to start the upcoming season with the Autumn Classic International in Oakville, Canada, from Sept. 20, it has been learned.
Hanyu's entry will be official when a board meeting of the Japan Skating Federation approves his plan on Monday. Now 23, Hanyu was the gold medalist in men's figure skating at both the Sochi and Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
He has been steadily recovering from an injury sustained to his right ankle before the Pyeongchang Games. The international event in the Ontario town will be his first competition since the Winter Games earlier this year.
For the ISU Grand Prix series, Hanyu plans to compete in Finland and Russia, both in November.
