Property company Hansteen has launched plans for a 500 house mixed-use development at Polmont.
The proposal for the 55.6 hectare site to the East of Gilston Farm will include residential, commercial and retail uses with linked infrastructure.
Hansteen has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice to Falkirk Council prior to submitting a planning application.
The indicative masterplan includes residential land for 500 houses, land for employment-related uses and a large open space area which would include a water park.
The developers said the development would also help in addressing partial flooding of the site.
The current Local Development Plan allocates the land for employment uses only but a Scottish Government Reporter has recommended that it should be changed to a mixed-use allocation to deliver housing to address a shortfall in the Falkirk Council area.
This effectively allocated the site for leisure and tourism businesses, housing to include affordable housing, a neighbourhood centre including retail and local services and green space including sports pitches.
The company said that it would undertake extensive community engagement to see what the public would want for the site and would deliver a development that takes flooding into account.
The consultation will be done under Scottish government guidance that has suspended the normal public consultation and replaced it wth live and interactive web-based consultation to take place on Wednesday 24 June from 1pm to 8pm.

“In addition to housing and employment uses, we are keen to get the views of the public and hear what they would like to see in terms of potential community uses.”
