Hannay not happy with Chambers sledging

Sharks coach Josh Hannay was not happy with Will Chamber's sledging as they lost to Manly. (AAP)

Cronulla coach Josh Hannay admits he didn't like Will Chambers' verbal tirade at old rival Dylan Walker, admitting the veteran's emotions got the better of him in the Sharks 40-22 loss to Manly.

Chambers spent several sets giving it to Walker and Manly players in the second half, after he came out of the line and flattened the Sea Eagles utility.

The only problem for Chambers was that it came in the middle of a Tom Trbojevic try-scoring spree.

Already beaten on the scoreboard, Chambers continued to give it to Manly players after the hit before creating a scuffle after Trbojevic's third try.

It came as the veteran centre was taken from the field with 14 minutes to go by the Sharks, in his comeback game after closed borders forced him out for four weeks after the birth of his child.

"I didn't enjoy it," Hannay said.

"When you're behind on the scoreboard I am loath for our guys to be too chirpy.

"Everyone knows Will likes to be chirpy out there and get under people's skin.

"It was his first game back for a while and I know he was fired up and keen to get back into it.

"But he probably let his emotions get the better of him there."

Hannay does hope to at least have Matt Moylan back for Saturday afternoon, after he failed to recover from a calf injury in time to face Manly.

With Shaun Johnson out for the season, that will likely see Connor Tracey return to the centres and Braydon Trindall remain as a half alongside Moylan.

"We will have to think about that," Hannay said.

"Connor Tracey is the most versatile player in the game. He can make his way back to the centres.

"We will check on Matt's availability through the week.

"Hopefully (we have him). We are certainly down on some troops at the moment.

"Probably five quality first graders not out there (against Manly) who would have made a big difference."
