Hannah Rankin calls for Berghult rematch after dominant ring return

Fired-up Hannah Rankin has demanded a rematch with Patricia Berghult following a dominant return to action on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Luss fighter knocked-out Hungarian veteran Eva Bajic in the third round, with the former IBF World Champion a late stand-in after admin issues ruled Gifty Ankrah out of the bout.

And afterwards, a delighted Rankin took to Twitter to call for a rematch with unbeaten Swede Berghult, who defeated her in November to take her IBO super welter weight world title belt.

Hannah said: “Thanks to ex world champ Eva Bajic and now I move on.Thanks for the support I had last night in a sold out venue.

“To those who stood by me I’m back, Patricia Berghult where you at?”

Rankin also called on undefeated English fighter Savannah Marshall to go toe-to-toe with her.

She added: “Savannah, seeing as you were happy to sound off on social media, I’m game.

“Get Eddie Hearn to get his cheque book out, let’s do it for a title and see if you are as aggressive to my face as you were behind a keyboard, if not there are a few out there who’ll happily fight me.”

It was a successful weekend for the classically trained bassoonist who was also named Female Boxer of the Year by the Scottish ex-Boxers Association after a memorable 2019, where she became Scotland’s first ever female world champion.
