Described as a kind and magnetic person by his family, Simoneau, 69, was a well-respected hang-glider pilot with a passion for adventure.
According to reports from the Los Angeles Times, Simoneau's Topanga home in the Santa Monica Mountains was destroyed in the fire. Despite receiving evacuation orders upon returning from a ski trip, Simoneau made the courageous decision to stay behind to defend the home he had built by hand.
Tragically, Simoneau's body was discovered near the doorway of his home by officials on Thursday. His friend and fellow hang-glider pilot, Steve Murillo, shared that Simoneau's dedication to his home was a testament to his fearless and determined nature.



Simoneau's family set up a GoFundMe page to honor his memory and raise funds for his final arrangements. The page described Simoneau as a true badass who was willing to risk his life to protect what was dear to him.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner is working to identify an unidentified fire victim found on the same block where Simoneau lived, adding to the somber aftermath of the fire.
