Handy Liverpool mum and dad make all their own Christmas decorations

A Liverpool mum and dad have made all their own Christmas decorations for a festive makeover of their home.

Lee and Chloe Welsh have transformed the outside of their city centre house into a winter wonderland.

Lee, who spent 10 years in the armed forces, made everything on display including a six-foot snowman which he made from pallets.

He told the ECHO: "I jigsawed out the head and body and then painted and attached it on to a six-foot strip of wood to form the spine and then hand-painted it.

"The trees and sleigh are all from scrap wood and pallets from local building sites as well as the Elf on the Shelf. I drew on to a sheet of MDF, jigsawed out and hand-painted it."

Lee, who now works in security, also made the nutcrackers that stand either side of the front door while his wife Chloe, who works as a teaching assistant, made a huge door bow and Christmas wreath.

The 37-year-old said: "Chloe is very crafty and changes the colours every year. Our wreath was made with rubber tubes stuck together with adhesive and strips of foliage glued to the rubber to make the wreath.

He added: "I don't do this professionally, it's more of a hobby. I was in graphic design for three years before I joined the Armed Forces in 2001."

Lee served with the King's Regiment and Second Battalion of the Duke of Lancaster, doing two tours of Iraq in 2002 and 2007.

Lee, who lives in the Baltic Triangle, with daughters, Cora-Leigh, 9, and seven-year-old Lottie, wife Chloe and puppy Woody, now enjoys a lot of his spare time on his DIY projects.

The dad-of-two said: "It was hard adjusting when I left but I went straight into security jobs. Having kids helps and that's why I left, to start a family.

"I really enjoy carpentry and I've done a number of little projects over lockdown including building, bin and bike sheds plus my own bar. I didn't have a clue when I was doing it, but it all came together."

Lee added that their family's DIY decorations attract a lot of attention.

He said: "The kids are always shouting 'there's someone outside' they love it when people come to look at the house."
